MANDRIA & PAPHOS AREA ATTRACTIONS. |
 |
|
Mandria is a quaint, restful, traditional Cypriot
village that is located about 6 kilometres from Paphos
Airport. It is approximately a 10 minute drive from the
tourist town of Paphos. The village offers a bakery, a
coffee shop, a bank, a small supermarket and gift shop.
Whether you want a full Cypriot meal, or just a drink,
the 2 tavernas offers all at very reasonable prices.
Mandria sits within an agricultural area and as such the
Government has put a limit to the amount of building in
the area, making it ideal for those who love
countryside/coastal settings. Beautiful flora will
impress and the peanut plantations that surround the
village make for a wonderful setting for nature lovers.
October sees village celebrations of the peanut harvest
with a song, dance and wine festival. The secluded
beaches are tranquil as they have not yet been
discovered by the masses of tourists that swarm into
Paphos. Mandria Bay is only a 20 minute walk, or a 5
minute drive from the villa, through fruit and peanuts
plantations. The area is very flat, making it easy to
push wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Paphos Area. The Paphos area has so much to
do and see that we think it is virtually impossible to
become bored. Paphos Town is approximately 20 kilometres
North West of Mandria where the main tourist area is to
be found. There is a harbour at Paphos where the waves
of the Mediterranean lap against the sea wall, all sorts of
shops can also be found as well as many restaurants. The
nightlife is literally a stones throw away from the sea.
Paphos Area is well renown for may other things, such as
churches and temples, both Christian and Byzantine,
museums, Tomb of the Kings, Aphrodite's Rock (although
this is found South along the coast from Mandria). We
have compiled a list of activities that can be found in
the Paphos Area, and around our villa, they are not in
preferential order, and is not exhaustive. Then of
course there are the Troodos Mountains., where of course
it is possible to ski in the morning and then swim in
the sea in the afternoon.

Wining And Dining.
There are endless choices to be made of where to
eat out, traditional or international. Even the
tavernas in the remotest villages will serve
food and drink that will astound you. The
hospitality is second to none. All kinds of
vegetables, meat, and fish are often cooked on
charcoal grills, or in clay ovens. There are all
sorts of local specialities, such as Halloumi
(sheep's milk cheese), Humus (sauce made from
olive oil, lemon juice, chickpeas, and sesame)
and of course the unbelievable Meze (multi
courses of hot and cold food) that will fill the
most ravenous person. What better to wash it
down with but local wines and beers, from the
local wineries or even the larger ones on the
island. The prices are very reasonable, so if
you don't fancy cooking, its so easy to go out,
and if you don't want to drive, George's Taverna
or Yani's Taverna
in Mandria will be hard to surpass. |
